My 10 Favorite Fortnite Cosmetic Skins

One of my favorite things about Fortnite Battle Royale is the assortment of skins available for players to sport as they are playing the game. Everyone starts off with the Default skin for free, but by purchasing the Season Battle Pass or individual skins through the daily rotating Item Shop, players can acquire new cosmetic skins to deck out their characters so that they can stand out a bit more as they battle their way across the island hoping to obtain a Victory Royale. There are also several skins that players can obtain through cross promotions with other ventures such as the Twitch Prime exclusives, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch console exclusives, and the two Samsung Galaxy exclusives, giving players more options to sport their favorite skins and show off to other players. Heck, as of the day that I am writing this piece, I personally have more than 90 skins in my Locker – and I still intend to purchase a few more throughout the remainder of Season 8. By my estimates, I will have in excess of 100 skins by the end of this month alone.

Of course, just because I own more than 90 skins in Fortnite that doesn’t mean that I will sport each and every skin as I am playing the game. There are quite a few skins, mainly some that are included in the Season Battle Pass that I just find completely atrocious; Giddy-Up, Nightshade, Peely – I’m looking in your direction. Seriously, sometimes I wonder if some skins are included in each season’s Battle Pass just to troll the Fortnite community. But I digress, there are definitely some skins that I prefer to sport during a round of Fortnite more than others. And that is what I want to share with you in this post here: my 10 favorite Fortnite skins. Well, so far at least; I mean, there are already some leaked skins that I know I will be purchasing and look as though they might find their way into my “favorite skins” rotation. But for now, these are the 10 skins that I sport regularly while I am playing Fortnite.

10. Rosa
“Celebrate the unknown.”

Rosa is a cosmetic skin that players could obtain by purchasing it via the Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks and is part of the Muertos set that was released during the 2018 Fortnitemares event as part of the Halloween holiday season. It is an Epic outfit and has a reactive element to the skin that will change as you deal damage and survive longer into a match. The skin will start to glow in the dark as you progress through a match and is one of the coolest skins in Fortnite because of it. The reason that Rosa is one of my favorite skins in the game is because she is representative of the Dia de los Muertos tradition – a tradition that I take great pride in having celebrated it since childhood because of my Mexican heritage on my mother’s side. It is a beautiful skin and one that I continually use with great pride and honor.

9. Ark
“Upholding the principles of righteous victory.”

Ark is a cosmetic skin that players could obtain from the Item Shop for 2,000 V-Bucks and is part of the Eternal Struggle set. It is a Legendary skin and bares more than a passing resemblance to the character Mercy from the popular Blizzard game Overwatch. And because I use Mercy as my main on Overwatch, it was a no brainer that I would pick up this skin and use as one of my favorites on Fortnite. She isn’t as camouflaged or discreet as most of the other skins on this are, but her overall look and design is what keeps me utilizing her during matches in the game.

8. Tinseltoes
“Keep the competition on their toes.”

Tinseltoes is a cosmetic skin that players could purchase from the Item Shop for 800 V-Bucks during the 2018 Holiday season. It is an Uncommon skin and is possibly a female counterpart to the 2017 Holiday season skin Codename E.L.F. This skin is a favorite of mine in part because of its slim design but also because of how colorful and festive the design of the outfit is. I really like the candy cane color scheme of the stockings and the elfish design of the top. And it even has a little Mrs. Clause feel with the blouse underneath the vest. And while I mainly used this skin during the winter holidays season, I sometimes switch to using her on occasion now and again.

7. Sunbird
Fly in light, and eclipse the sun.”

Sunbird is a cosmetic skin that players could obtain by purchasing it in the Item Shop for 1,200 V-Bucks and is part of the Sun Soldiers set. It is a Rare skin and one that I really like because this particular skin reminds me a lot of my daughter. That’s why I really like this skin. When the character is sans the mask, she really looks like my daughter Lily; even down to the kind of top and tight pants she sports. When my daughter first saw the skin and the likeness to her, she immediately asked if she could cosplay as Sunbird in the near future. And of course, I’m going to let her do so. That’s why this is one of my favorite skins in Fortnite right now.

6. Volley Girl
“If you get served, it’s not her fault.”

Volley Girl is a cosmetic skin that players could purchase in the Item Shop for 1,200 V-Bucks and is not a part of any particular set. It is a Rare skin and perhaps the skin that I believe is the cutest skin in Fortnite so far. To be fair, she does kind of remind me a lot of one of my favorite streamers – the Australian streamer known as LoserFruit. I think that LoserFruit has even cosplayed as Volley Girl once after she also noticed the similarities to the character. Likeness to LoserFruit aside, I think one of the reason why I like this skin so much is because of the outfit the character sports and how fashionably ravishing it looks. All in all, this is just one skin that is way too cute for its own good.

5. Skully
“Accept nothing less that stylish domination.”

Skully is a cosmetic skin that players could purchase in the Item Shop for 1,200 V-Bucks during the 2019 Valentine’s Day period. Additionally, the skin has an unlockable alternate style that could be obtained by completing the three Skully Challenges. It is a Rare skin and is not a part of any particular set. When I am sporting the Skully skin in a game, I am usually rocking the white “hearts” variant of the skin because I like the design of that outfit more than the standard version of the outfit. It’s white and pink design is more in line with the Valentine’s Day aesthetic and it is a bit more suited to hiding, especially in the snow biome of the island. Overall, I love playing as this skin quite often when I’m playing a few rounds.

4. Lynx
“Who needs nine lives when one is enough?”

Lynx is a cosmetic skin that players got as part of the Season 7 Battle Pass where it was part of the Tier 1 level of the pass and part of the Lynx set. It is a Legendary skin that also had several unlockable styles; seven unlockable tiers in total. Because of the number of variants this skin has, my favorite of them all is the all black catsuit variant. Whether I play with or without the optional tail really depends on how I feel, but I love using the black catsuit variant because it allows me to hide better than the other skins do. I’m usually a bush camper when playing, but with this skin I’m able to hide in bigger corners or under trees where other players usually don’t bother to look. Sometimes they’ll even run right past me and not even notice it, giving an easy but cheeky elimination.

3. Rose Team Leader
“Stop and smell the victory.”

Rose Team Leader is a cosmetic skin that could only be obtained by purchasing the single player mode of Fortnite, Save the World. It is a Legendary skin and not part of any particular set, though you will also get the War Paint skin as part of the same promotion. Because of the tactical look that this skin has, I like using it as I skulk my way across the island. Though sometimes the pink in the outfit can give away where I am to enemies who are keen enough to spot me. Still, I love the design of this skin and it really reminds me a lot of my favorite skin in the game, but I’ll get to that in a bit…

2. Bandolette
“Unrivaled ambush predator of the jungle.”

Bandolette is a cosmetic skin that players could purchase through the Item Shop and is part of the Tropic Troopers set. It is a Rare skin and will cost players 1,200 V-Bucks to obtain. Bandolette is seemingly the female equivalent of the Bandolier skin introduced in Season 4, but this design is just so much cooler than that. Honestly speaking, Bandolette is one of the sexiest skins in the game. I know a lot of people don’t quantify that as a valid reason, but because I like the look of the skin that’s reason enough for me. Either way, this skin does compliment the new Jungle/Volcano biome and since I have been spending quite a bit of time playing in that area, I’ve been sure to rock this skin a lot since I bought it in the shop.

1. Trailblazer
“On the forefront of victory.”

Trailblazer is a cosmetic skin that players could obtain as part of the Advanced Forces set and this particular skin was part of the Twitch Prime Pack 2. It is an Epic skin and the skin I use the most while playing Fortnite. I would say that when I am playing Fortnite, 60% of the time I am rocking the Trailblazer skin. And most of the wins that I have in the game have also come as I am using this skin during a match, so I’ve also come to consider this my lucky skin as well. Because of that, most of my friends and my family recognize Trailblazer as “my” skin and will often question why I’m using a different when playing. Because of her tactical look and the slim build of the skin, she is the one most in line with my style of play and that is the main reason why Trailblazer is my favorite skin in Fortnite.
